Laminate
Laminate
Invented in 1977, laminate wood flooring has been rising in popularity due to several benefits over traditional wood flooring. Laminate flooring is made from multi-layer synthetic material bound together with a lamination process. Laminate flooring can have the appearance of wood flooring as well as natural stone flooring. Its main benefit is that it is more durable than carpet and has a more attractive appearance like wood flooring, but at a lower cost than natural wood flooring products. However, it is important to maintain laminate flooring by removing dirt and sand that may scratch its decorative surface or get into the gaps between planks to create hard to fix gaps if left for too long. Although laminate flooring is not prone to instant water damage, when in contact with excessive moisture for prolonged periods of time, the material can warp or swell.
The following are the inherent environmentally friendly characteristics of laminate flooring:
- Made from renewable or recycled materials, such as wood chips and fiber
- Effectively imitates many of the very popular endangered materials without a single tree being felled
- Requires minimal maintenance, no harsh cleaning chemicals needed
- The reusable locking system makes installation much faster with less energy, less noise and less waste
- It s durability results in less replacement and longer service
- Manufacturing procedures are environmentally friendly
