As one of the most valuable domestic species, it is highly sought after for a variety of timber products. Red oak’s appearance is close to White Oak. Its heartwood and sapwood are in similar brownish color. The sapwood is a lighter tone than the heartwood’s. Grain is generally straight with some coarse textures. In North America, there are more than 200 Red Oak subspecies. Red Oak in North America can be grouped into northern and southern, where northern oaks exhibit a greater hardness. Red Oak floors exhibits a great variation in color and grain, depending on its natural wood grades. Its Janka hardness is 1,290 which is slightly harder than the White Oak’s.
