A native species to the rugged mountain region of southwestern region of China, the wood is naturally light in color and usually creates an amplifying effect in small rooms. Its sapwood is creamy yellow pale white and the heartwood is light reddish brown tinged with red. The grain is generally light and straight with occasional curly grain or wavy figure in some boards. The hardness is 1,260, which is softer than hard maple. Dimensional stability is currently unavailable.
